Remember my obsession with job descriptions? Well I’m almost as obsessive about performance evaluations. Here’s a little secret … HR mangers dislike the “traditional” evaluation as well—we don’t like nagging you for them and we don’t like doing them. Employees don’t like receiving them. But, we keep beating ourselves up performing them!

• Imagine trying to run your business and only looking at your profit and loss statement once a year. You can’t even conceive of that idea, can you?!
• You wouldn’t dream of driving your car for a year without checking the oil periodically.
• Stop expecting your employees to work like a well-run machine without giving them some care and feeding!
